Freedom: shell box (2)

‘This series of boxes is an extension of the ‘Freedom’ wall tile series.. I have been quietly exploring making boxes within my practice over the years however they never felt ‘right’. Looking back i was trying to make them “perfectly” (lol) which is exactly what my work is not! Taking cue from the flow i experienced while making the initial tiles, i leant into the beautiful imperfections imbedded in the clay and assembled  the boxes as so.’

Kurinuki Box -box and lid carved out of a single lump of clay- decorated with shell imprints made in South Australian Terracotta, clear glaze and mother of pearl lustre.

Due to the nature of hand-building, each item is completely unique and one of a kind. With every piece, to every batch made, form, size and finish will vary.
