Freedom: shell box (5)

‘This series of boxes is an extension of the ‘Freedom’ wall tile series.. I have been quietly exploring making boxes within my practice over the years however they never felt ‘right’. Looking back i was trying to make them “perfectly” (lol) which is exactly what my work is not! Taking cue from the flow i experienced while making the initial tiles, i leant into the beautiful imperfections imbedded in the clay and assembled  the boxes as so.’

Slab built box decorated with shell imprints made in South Australian Terracotta, white matte engobe, clear glaze and mother of pearl lustre details.

Due to the nature of hand-building, each item is completely unique and one of a kind. With every piece, to every batch made, form, size and finish will vary.
